Bel Air Hospital, Panchgani, India

Bel Air Hospital

In September 2006, FEZANA donated $3000 to Bel Air Hospital in Panchagani, India for treament of patients with HIV/AIDS. This hospital is built on land donated almost 100 years ago by late Dorab Tata, originally for treatment of patients with tuberculosis by another famous Zarathushti doctor, Dr. Rustom Bomanji Billimoria. Over the years, the hospital has undergone a number of ups and downs, management changes and was almost closed down. Then donations by Mr. Lala and Mobed Mehraban Zartoshty rejuvenated it and today it is treating over 300 patients for various deseases including HIV/AIDs and is adding a school for training nurses. It is an inspiring story of collaboration between the Parsis, a Christian order, and many dedicated doctors and nurses. Several individuals in the US are involved in the project -- notably, Dr. Mehroo Patel and Porus Dadabhoy of Chicago. I would like to hear from others who may have visited this hospital or have helped.

The Bel Air Hospital story is now available on a video (19 minutes) at:
